For beginners we recommend a minimum of a 7 night stay to ensure completion of at least one training module.
Our entry level module focuses on the basics and will take you through all phases of wind and tidal awareness, site assessment, and safety procedures necessary for proper kiting.
On day 1 you will start off on dry land learning the basic techniques of kite handling with a practice kite on the sand dunes of Campeche or Joaquina, before progressing on day 2 to the lagoon, doing body drags and water starts with full equipment. This is followed by 1-2 days of boat assisted starts.
Most beginners will be getting up and riding by the end of day 3. If time and conditions permit, you’ll be able to put your skills to the test, stepping up to a larger kite and taking on upwinding in Module 2 where you will improve your riding stance and ability to ride further distances.
Topics covered in this module include: rigging and tuning, assisted and self-launching/landing, relaunching from the water and performance tips including edging and multi-directional riding. With the benefit of our expert kite instructors you will be speeding across the waves and flying high in no time!
Module 1 Basic Kiting Skills & Awareness: Kite training on dry land (training kite), followed by body drags and water starts under boat supervision (small kite). See above for full description of topics covered.
Module 2 Basic Skills Evolution and Upwind Introduction: Larger kite, continue basic skill practice and learn how to upwind under boat supervision. See above for full description of topics covered.
